I had never belonged to a political party before joining the Greens in 2014, but was inspired to do so in despair at what I was seeing about environmental destruction, and also how little urgency the big party politicians were treating the crisis.

The Greens offer more than empty words and soundbite spin doctoring. Big corporations need to be held in check, and only the Greens have the willpower to do so. At the forefront of the policy changes that need to happen is weaning the economy off petrochemicals and making serious investment in renewable fuels. As a generation we have the chance to make this decision - future generations will not have the luxury of choice.

I am a regular cyclist around Bath, it is my preferred form of transport. On most days the journeys are a delight; on the whole the city does have clean air and safe roads. But these improvements have been hard-won and we cannot rest on our laurels. There is still much more to do to improve road safety for cyclists in order to encourage more users onto their bikes in preference to their cars. Only the Greens are able to deliver real change on this front.
