I am Deborah Brosnan, one of the Green Party candidates for your area and I have been a Green Party member for over 10 years. I have lived and worked in BANES for 21 years and am proud to be part of such a beautiful part of the country. We have a lot to celebrate but I am also aware of the challenges local people face with congested roads, limited public transport, an inflated cost of living, stretched public services as well as air and river pollution. Through my work as a children’s speech and language therapist, I know first hand the issues that matter to families and young people, including concerns about mental health, difficulties accessing childcare and long waiting lists in health and education.
In my spare time, I enjoy walking, cycling and travelling, especially when good food and drink is also on offer. I sing in choirs and bands and was involved for several years in organising a local arts and music festival. I am a regular volunteer at a local community garden and orchard and enjoy the connections made and the knowledge gained.
I believe that together we can make a caring, fair and safe community where everyone can meet their own needs in the way they choose. We should all have secure warm housing, food to eat and green leisure space in a healthy natural environment.
