Crime and Community

Greens believe that a high level of community commitment best tackles crime with a partnership approach between communities, residents, the police and the council. This also tackles the fear of crime which often over emphasises crime and disorder. It is important that people feel safe on the streets of Bath and other towns.

To this end we would:

  • Set up community partnerships based around the area committees
  • Support both community policing including a more visible police presence and community support workers
  • Make certain that the local area committees have the capacity to ensure that the building blocks are in place to stop crime. This needs to include increased youth provision, tackling drug use and well-lit streets where people are out and about. This is especially true of the city centre where no one should feel the centre is not for them
  • Continue support for neighbourhood and tenant watch groups Make sure that all new design has within it a commitment to ensuring safety.
