Now retired, I live in the ward and have stood 3 times as candidate in the old Westmoreland ward, coming 12 votes short of being elected last time. I worked with the residents group and councillors there, and having worked for local authorities before I retired, I understand how they work and their limitations.
I have spent my whole life actively involved in environmental and social justice campaigns, most recently with the Climate Emergency campaign, which has been long overdue. This will present us all with huge challenges, and we need brave councillors to face up to these.
