Government “running scared” of diesel drivers in delay of clean air plan

26 April 2017

The government have delayed publishing their report in tackling pollution and have been accused of hiding behind the election from health and environment specialists.

Eleanor Field has lambasted the government of “running scared” of publishing the report.

“It’s not good enough. This government's lack of action is destroying our health, making us breathe dirty air. They are running scared of diesel drivers and not prioritising protecting people's health.”

“They have scrapped funding for renewable energy and failed at every target on the environment. This delay is only making things worse. We need action now.”

“The Green Party has real solutions to fix our dirty air and polluted planet. We have always put the environment at the top of the agenda and here in Bath we have been campaigning tirelessly to get the council to take serious action on improving air quality, and need an MP to do the same in Westminster.”

The government had been under orders from the court to introduce measures to tackle illegal levels nitrogen dioxide produced primarily by diesel cars after their original plans were dismissed as poor bordering on unlawful.

Ministers have submitted an extension to the deadline after the call of a General Election.

Poor air quality has been blamed for over 40,000 related deaths last year.

and here in Bath we have been campaigning tirelessly to get the
council to take serious action on improving air quality, and need an MP to
do the same in Westminster.
